Laurel Mall “Looks can be Deceiving” (2010-2012)
Dan Bell
Laurel Mall “Looks can be Deceiving” (2010-2012)
Taken in the Laurel Mall in Laurel, Maryland with a Canon Rebel XS. At one point Laurel Mall was working on bringing business back through aggressive advertising and offering competitive leasing to new retailers. The “Looks can be Deceiving” campaign was plastered all over the mall’s interior to generate excitement for this new era. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be. The retailers weren’t interested, shoppers weren’t interested and vacancies continued to rise. Laurel Mall opened to huge fanfare in October of 1979. In 2012 the last tenant locked their doors and the mall was closed and later completely demolished. The land where the mall stood is now an outdoor “towne centre” with shopping and restaurants.
